I cant remember how the case got started though. I know I went to the hospital to log my injury and went to the police for an incident number. Ask your insurance company as they claim of the other company after blame has been assumed.
Mine was a bit mor complicated as he was not insured but I still got a payment.

From experience (last September) I can tell you that you should go to the hospital and explain what happened and ask for a check up also see your doctor and get a prescription for pain killers , Your insurance company will sort out your car as it seems that as you were hit from behind this was not your fault, as far as claiming is concerned check your car insurance and see if you have legal cover if you have then your insurance company will put you in touch with a firm of solicitors who will take the case up for you, if you are not covered by this then you will have to find a firm that will take this matter up for you, keep all receipts for pain killers, physio treatment etc as these will be required by the solicitors acting for the other driver before any payment is made .As far as compensation is concerned it is a claim and this will be sorted out by your by the solicitors.Trust this helps.
Same thing happened to me back end of last year. The guy who hit me admitted it was his fault and my insurance Company got the car fixed and the claim sorted out pretty quickly. I had legal cover on my insurance, and because I had whiplash (and still have) they put a Solicitior on the case for me, who recently sent me to be checked out at a physiotherapy clinic. It turns out that I have a soft tissue injury which I'll need physio for. The solicitors are currently dealing with a claim for compensation, I'm hoping to hear something soon. These things do take their time to be sorted out, so be patient and you'll get there eventually. Good luck !
Really if you've been injured in a road traffic collision it should have been reported to the police, but if you havent' don't worry but do make sure you register your injuries with yor GP or get checked out at A&E.
A word of caution though. Same thing happened to me early December. Bloke admitted at the scene it was his fault, phoned his insurers at the time as I heard him tell them "I've just run in the back of someone. What do I do now?" He admitted blame to the police at the scene. He's getting done for Due Care or if he agrees can opt to pay for driver improvement training. Are his insurers admitting liability? Are they heck!! Whilst the insurers deliberate my renewal premium has doubled because my insurers take away my no-claims until they have been assured the other insurers will pay up! He ran in the back of me and I was taken to hospital, he's getting done by the police - what more proof do insurers need that I'm the innocent party? Obviously needs to be carved in stone before my premium reverts to normal. Insurance protocols? Jim Royle has a comment for that..
