My husband received a letter today from DVLA issuing him with a fine as his car tax ran out end of Dec 06. I went straight to the Post Office to tax it and the lady behind the counter stated that lots of people had been in with fines because they didn't receive a reminder. My mum also said that there was a postal strike in Dec. We honestly didn't receive the reminder (I know we shouldn't have relied on that and wrote it on the calendar). Do you think it's worthing appealing about? The lady at the Post Office said it was worth a try. Trouble is, the fine is 40 if you pay by end of March, or 80 if you pay by end of April. If you write a letter of appeal, surely they're going to not bother replying until after the the cheapest fine date. They're just going to want to make money aren't they? I've just taxed my car at end of Feb, and we haven't ever not had tax before, it was a genuine case of forgetting when it ran out. Do you think it's worth appealing or just put it down to experience? TIA

Panic Button - just ran out to the car to have a look did you, lol. Tut tut, the world is full of perfect little angels.
Oh the irony.

If only you had spent this much time and effort on a way to remember when the tax disc needed renewing...
Why post on a forum such as this when you KNOW it is your own responsibility to check when your tax runs out. What did you expect - sympathy?

I don't check my tax disc every day but I know roughly when I last paid and therefore when it is (roughy) next due.

Btw, I am no angel, I have quite often driven with my tax disc a week or so out of date, but if I got caught, I would know it was my own fault and just cough up.
at the end of the day it's your responsibility, at the end of the month it's your responsibility, at the momemt of impact it's your responsibility. if they owed you money i bet you wouldn't forget.

What a helpful lot you are!! The actual question was 'anybody had a fine for no car tax?' So, why post on here if you haven't had a fine? Do you not understand english? Obviously not. Oh well, you all live such sad little lives that you spend all evening writing about stuff that you have no experience of.

AB has gone so downhill that it's now just full of saddos that have nothing constructive to say and just try and upset everybody. Sorry to disappoint you, but I don't give a rat's arse what you think.

Perhaps in future, you'd all be better off polishing your halos rather than replying to questions that obviously don't concern you. To reiterate, can you all read? The question was 'Anybody had a fine for no car tax?' If you haven't then it's obvious that you don't qualify to reply doh!!
hers's some plain english for you pay up and shut up
Question Author
Chevrolet - I wouldn't call that plain english would you? Try learning to spell and use punctuation. It might actually give you some credibility for your rudeness, although I seriously doubt it. Like I said before, I don't care what you think, so you can shut up.

By your replies, you seem to be a 17-year old with very little education and a heavy interest in cars.
so i missed an 'e', at least i won't get fined 40 for it. you should count yourself lucky you didn't hit anything in the time you were driving illegally on the road
Question Author
Ever heard of commas, full stops and capital letters? If you could read, you would know that it's my husband and not myself that drives the car. Grow up boy-racer.
funny, i didn't fink dis was an english lesson topic. oh, and buy da way me birfdate is 1960 so dooya do mafs as well?
Question Author
Oh, so you're an old fart, pretending to be a boy-racer. Yes, I am also very able with numbers as well as english, but am I supposed to be psychic to know you were born in 1960. Perhaps all that time ago you didn't need to learn to read and write. Don't worry, it's nothing to be ashamed of. It's just that your true age doesn't come across in your replies.
ok it's been fun but i have to go now so i will just leave you with this thought. ignorance is not innocense. bye bye
Question Author
Ok. Just remember how to spell innocence in future and I'll let you off. Been nice bantering with you. Bye!
Taz - come on now - these people have tried to help you with your question and all you can do now is insult them.

Driving a car is a responsibility - not just on the road physically driving the vehicle but in organizing the things that go with it, ins, tax MOT etc. It's easily done to maybe forget by a couple of days - but two months ?? It's the drivers responsibility to ensure his car is roadworthy everytime he gets into it and yes I do check my car regularly. I have a mobile phone which I put reminders on, calendars & like Ethel said - you can also do it in Microsoft Outlook in the Calendar part.

We're not all perfect and we all make mistakes, I'm sure everyone would agree. Driving without Tax is a mistake that carries a very small fine. Now if these people who drive around without insurance received the same 40 fine - I'd be with you but they don't. The fine is always relative to the offence. There not asking for 3 points or for you to retake your test. It's a 40 fine!

Take your punishment and move on in life. I know for certain you will not do it again - so look at it as the Joys of Motoring !

It's always best though not to criticise the people who try to help you.

Oh and another thing this was the original question - Anybody had a fine for no car tax?

But within that heading were:

Do you think it's worthing appealing about?
They're just going to want to make money aren't they?
Do you think it's worth appealing or just put it
down to experience?

So people have answered these questions too - you're attack - posted just after Chevrolet's - on the people who have tried to help was plainly uncalled for and it is you that has been rude and not read your own question before posting.

Come on Taz70 - we are all here trying to help.

almcd007 - Did you notice that I only became a little rude after people criticising and being sarcastic, and really not offering genuine advice. I think the only real advice came from Ethel and a couple of others who said an appeal would be worth a try. Just because we happened to genuinely forget to tax the car, they all came out of the woodwork to have a pop. Anybody would think I have committed a murder. If they were helpful and courteous I wouldn't have resorted to rudeness.

I have seen much of this with other threads on AB, where people just seem to have nothing better to do than go off on one for the sake of it. I could understand the rudeness if I had got pi$$ed out of my face and ran a child over, but come on! Like I said, I received a reminder for my car last month and duly taxed it. We didn't receive a reminder for my husband's car. I know DVLA don't have to send one, but they usually do, hence we've never forgot before. I just wish they would do something about the real culprits, such as the ones riding around in stolen cars without insurance. Oh well, you live and learn. You're right, I won't be doing it again. I certainly won't trust any of them, particularly when they're just out to make money out of genuine people, when the to$$ers get away with whatever they want. Finally, I would have thought that people would have read the actual question heading, before deciding if they need to reply. I know there were other questions within the text after, but by reading the original question, they would know whether to reply or not.
"AB has gone so downhill that it's now just full of saddos that have nothing constructive to say and just try and upset everybody. Sorry to disappoint you, but I don't give a rat's arse what you think. "

Taz, you describe yourself so well.
Actually Taz70 you became (more than) "a little rude" immediately after my first post which contained no criticism nor sarcasm, only a factual statement.

Also Ethel suggested it was not worth your while to appeal. Forgetfulness is not a basis for successful appeal against the fine being imposed.
Question Author
Gef - I'm not a regular user of AB thankfully. I've got better things to do with my time, unlike you obviously. This thread was started on Friday, and you're still carrying it on. Nothing better to do??

Kempie - still coming back for more? Are there not more interesting threads to join?
