You quite often see cars with notices which state for sale ring ........ - I am shortly going to sell my car and I wondered how effective this type of advertising is? Has anyone sold a car this way and how long did it take?

Just make sure you put the price. The times I've seen "for Sale Ring....." and no price, no one will call if there is no price. I have sold a car like this once, so it does happen.
Yes, you need to put a price to at least give a starting point and so you don't waste your time or anyone elses.

I have sold cars with a price in the window- at least then Mr Bloggs going by knows if he's interested or not. You also need to put at least some basic info as well- MOT, that sort of thing.....park it on a main road, preferably near where someone can stop for a closer look, and answer the phone!!
I bought a car I saw on the road side.

Mr. Rusty is right. Park it somewhere where people can easily turn round and hover near it, or park up to have a closer look.
be very careful doing this as in some places its illegal and the council tow the cars away and have them crushed

Thank you all for your comments.
you are far better putting it on ebay - with a reserve if you wish, then you know when it will be sold and (as with the last two i have sold on there) you may well end up with more than you expected !.
Maybe I'm wrong but I thought it was illegal to put the price on a private notice like this (although everyone does it).
