Odd one this - please help!

Hi.
Appreciate any help with this.
I bought my girlfriend a private reg in July 2006 from the DVLA as a present. Put it on her car, fine. The car is serviced, MOT'd and insured. But heres the rub. She was stopped last week for using a mobile - 3 pts and 60.. When she produced her documents we were told that the Police would issue a summons as the car was uninsured. IE that it was under the old reg, as neither I nor my GF had told DVLA - assuming that they would change it, or the insurance co. We were shocked. She had 3 pts previously, now 6 in total. Apparently we have to go to court. We have just told the ins co, got a 'producer' from the ins to say prev covered, and written to DVLA.
Dumb but innocent mistake.
Can anyone advise on possible penalties or what todo next?
Thanks

Presumably the tax disc does not match the new number?

Gef. You are all heart. Yes she was daft, but she has learnt her lesson.
mdoo98. Thanks for the constructive reply. It was an innocent mistake, I feel bad that I have put her in this position. Fortunately the insurer is supporting her, so the accusation of having no car insurance no wont stand, and we are on to DVLA to sort it out, so hopefully it may not be as bad as we thought.
As for the uniform, Im too old, but I can still rock, though my hair is receding somewhat! Still see Brian and Cliff, Malcolm still a grumpy git! You like the old stuff?
