I got my head gasket replaced on my rover 45 (almost 700),when it was being repaired i received a call from the garage informing me that i needed a new rad because of bad gunge on the existing. When i picked the car up he told me to return after 200 miles to tighten bolts and flush out the water system.I did this today and when i picked the car up the water expansion tank was still full of the water /oil mix ,and the young mechanic said he wasnt told to flush the system but with no manager there i couldnt really argue ,My point is surely i should have got the car back without all this gunge in my expansion tank, and do i have a right to complain and have it cleaned out properly? THANKS

I would have expected it to come back 'gunge free'. Just ask them to do it for you.

Thanks for the advice doctor spock. I will go into the garage tomorrow. I'm a bit concerned about even letting them near my car now in case they might sabotage it in any way. Paranoia is obviously setting in now !!

Took it back today doc spock said he cleaned it out but the oil/water mix is still inside the expansion tank albeit stuck on the top with a little gunge in the water itself .Maybe its me but i thought the expansion tank could have been removed and cleaned out proper or else the mayo is always gonna be stuck insideand visible. He also said to bring it back in a week or so and he will flush it out again.should i just tell him i want it cleaned properly?
