I am importing a car into the UK. However, I can't license the car without insurance and I can't get insured without a vehicle registration. I am stuck, does anyone know a way around this?????

Easiest way would be to have the car transported to your premises and then get all the appropriate documents sorted.

here is a guide to importing cars

http://www.bbc.co.uk/consumer/guides_to/import ing_index.shtml

As a returning ex-pat I brought my car back with me from Dubai in a container.
I drove the car for 3 months with the foreign plates and the insurance broker issued me a certificate with this number.
Then in my own time I went to register the car with the UK authorities and they gave me a number, got plates made up and drove to the insurance people and they changed the policy over and I put the new plates on.
then I got my pal going back to Dubai to return the original plates back to the UAE traffic police & they returned my deposit that I had to pay to take the plates with me [ 50].
In the past I have insured 3 imported vehicles and each time the insurance company have insured it on the VIN. Each time I have then driven the car from the docks to home. It is the same for vehicles requiring SVA testing, you can (or could) drive to the SVA test centre without any plates at all as you cannot get a number until it is tested. I am talking three or four years ago, so check, things may have changed.
