removing coolant pump - vw polo

This is a VW Polo Classis (1997). Has anyone recently rremoved/replaced the water pump. I'm at the point where I'm trying to remove the back casing/housing which prevents the pump from coming out. Do I have to remove the back cover and if so does this mean the camshaft sprocket must be taken off first?
