Accident on private car park
10 Answers
I accidently bumped into another parked car on a private car park. I have left my details for the owner to get in touch. I was wondering if this will have to go through my insurance or not as it was on private land. If it does not am I legally obliged to pay for the damage?

If it has restricted access (such as a locked gate) then things are different.
Chevrolet is wrong, you have a choice, you can pay for their damage, they cannot make you go through your insurers it's up to you to pay or go through your insurers. If the third party are happy for you to pay and you pay for your own damage then your insurer need not be involved. You don't even have to tell your insurers although they would like you too, it's not a requirement.
No they don't have to agree chevvy you are wrong. You have to pay for the damage somehow it is not up to the 3rd party how you do it. You don't even have to confirm you are insured to the 3rd party, in fact you can tell them you are not and offer to pay for the damage. They may well call the police but hey if you are in fact insured then no problem. Show me where it says the 3rd part can insist and I'll shut up!l
You definitely can't be forced to go through your insurer if you are willing to accept any quote they give you for repairs and pay for it out of your own pocket.
Where you might use your insurers would be where the cost of repairs was well outwith your means in which case you just might be as well to let your insurers sort it and that way it is paid for by them.
