bought a car from carshock. part ex'd back to carshock to buy another car from them. they were setteling the outstanding finance with the original finance company. they sent that company a check which later bounced. now that company is persuing me for the outstanding finance. where does this leave me ?

The finance is not settled, you still owe I'm afrad. This is one of those unfortunate situations where through no fault of your own you are left in the lerch by some unscrupulous car dealer. You can explain what happenned to the finance company and that Carshock now have the car, they may then focus on Carshock to retrieve their money.
