\This has been bugging me for ages, why is it only hatchbacks (and estates ect) that have rear wash wipers. the rear window of an saloon is the same size and it gets dirty aswell but I do not know of a saloon that has one
It's because the boot of the saloon is support to diver the water away from the glass. On a hatchback there is nothing to stop the water going on the glass. This is the theory anyway but it doesn't really work like that in reality.
Often puzzled me too. On a lot of cars the wiper would get in the way of the boot opening I suppose. But thats no real answer. Come on car designers - tell us please! I know a rear wiper would help on saloons as well as hatchbacks - and the angle of the window is often very similar.........
