What does it mean when your tyres are perishing? Does that mean you need new ones? I only just got new ones a year ago and have only done 10,000 miles....surely they should last longer?
It means they are showing signs of wear - only inspecting them properly will tell if this is a problem with tracking or balancing or just the way you are using them.
perishing usually shows as radial cracking around the sidewall. It is generally age related and constant exposure to sunlight accelerates the problem. there is a date code on tyres how old are they, i know they were only fitted 1 year ago. if these are a premium make this is not normal but i suspect these are cheap and nasty east european tyres but even these should not be perishing this soon. go back and complain
I have found Michelins are notorious for this if they have been on for years - several cars I've bought have had them on the rear as originals and covered 50k+ miles and they crack at the sidewalls - if your not sure get someone who knows to check it out.
Hmm, sounds like i should investigate further. They were the cheaper option at the time...i think i have learnt my lesson! Only problem is the garage i got them from is no longer there.
still they shouldn't start perishing after a year. Are there cracks in the sidewall? Also, look for a 4 digit code on the sidewall, this will be the month and year of manufacture ie 1002 will be Oct 2002. If they are made before 2000 they will have a 3 digit code.
The only 4 digit numbers on the tyres are 1106 and 0679. I would hope they weren't made in 1979 and they were fitted in April 2006 so couldn't have been made in November. There are no 3 digit codes.
There's cracks in between the tread. The garage that told me is a decent garage. I phoned them and they said they didn't need changing yet, probably in 6 months time.
Tyres crack and perish down to age and weathering. When rubber is weathered it hardens and starts to crack a bit like your skin in the cold. And as the rubber hardens it becomes less flexible therefore not giving the highest amount of grip on the roads. Im almost certain that cracked tyres are now flagged up on your vehicles MOT
