This happened to a friend of ours. She took it to the local mechanic who fished under the dashboard, fiddled around with the wiring and the light went out. She was charged �20 for 5 minutes work. The reply was that his new machine he had bought to check for things like this had to be paid for.

kwicky, these diagnostics to scan the ecu on your car can cost upto �3000 so yes the garage does have to recoup the cost. otherwise fix it yourself.
