Parking a transit van?

Is it illegal to park a transit van outside someone else's house if it is not causing an obstruction?

Providing it is not on yellow lines or any other sort of resticted parking area, it is not illegal.

Its not illegal. They can park there if they wish. If you feel they are being inconsiderate to you, all you can do is be a nuisance to them.
When they want to park their van, if you are blocking them they will have to find somewhere else. If you notice they always arrive at a certain time, then put your car there at that time.

Thanks Panic Button for that. No-one is parking near my house but someone I know has to park his work's van around the corner from where he lives near someone else's house. It is not blocking anyone's drive nor is it causing an obstruction but a few people who live there are making a fuss about it. He cannot park it directly outside his own house as the road is too narrow.

It seems they're only making a fuss because they can't park their own cars where he parks. Unfortunately for them if he's not blocking anyone or causing an obstruction they'll just have to "suck it up".
I live in a small cul-de-sac where parking is a premium and regularly have to park well away from my house, but that's life. You don't own the parking place outside your property.

obviously the legality aspect has been established, if it is not obstructive and the vehicle is legal it can park where ever. perhaps the issue that should be addressed is the lack of forethought by those causing the fuss, did they not take into consideration the parking facilities when purchasing their properties, next they will be dictating the colour of vehicles allowed in 'their' street - public highway is as it claims to be a highway for which any member of the public can use, if these home owners actually own the section of road outside their homes than they would have a valid case but if not they are mistaken to assume it is their right to that section of road!

I think parking issues must cause quite a high percentage of neighbourhood disputes!

One of our neighbours has a "courtyard" big enough for 2 cars but their gate is broken and doesn't open so they don't use it and park outside of our place. The neighbours opposite could fit four cars easily on their yard, six at a push, but they also park their cars and vans outside our house. Another neighbour routinely takes up 2 spaces.

Unfortunately, any polite requests to allow us to park there usually ends up with a remark like, "I can park where I want" which, while perfectly true, is certainly not very considerate! My parents have lived here for 30 years, the longest out of the residents in this street and in the last 2 years these issues have caused more grief than you can imagine!

Oh well, at least the walks to/from the cars are doing us some good :)

my colleague once told me they aren't allowed any commercial vehicles at all down their road as its a new build and its in the deeds of the property!! I don't know how true that is, or even who would police it.

the guys across the road from us have 3 cars between the 2 of them (one very very noisy at that) and regularly park nearly obstructing our driveway. if the van next door to us does the same on the opposite side it means my husband would have to be driving at a straight angle into the driveway which isn't possible with the cars across the road outside their houses!!

once when Mr Ed had hired a van he parked across the road a bit further up. when he went to drive off there was a note on the windscreen asking him to move it as the lady that lived there had limited mobility. when he did move it, and reparked, she then put a lovely handmade thank you card under the wipers, bless! :)
