I am considering selling my car privately and would appreciate any tips. The car has personalized number plates, should I consider getting these changed first or if it is sold, this has previously been taken care of by dealer

you can either put it on a retention,�105 or just get the dealer to swap it over to the new car,�80.

perhaps I did not make myself clear. In the event I have a private buyer, will it delay the sale if I need to put on retention at that time before I purchase a new car from a dealer Previously the dealer has done this for �80

Hi, if your definatly selling, put it onto retention!, it's �105 which is made up of the �80 you usually pay , plus �25 to put it onto a cert.
I found it alot less hassle to retain it then sell the car, once the cars gone its gone!!

Once you have parted with your car the numberplate belongs to the new owner.

As above get it on retention.

i would sell plates separately.

the chances of finding someone who wants exactly that car at exactly that time and who has a name to match is slim.

personal plates can sell for quite a bit.

Thanks joko but although the plates are personal to us and we have transferred a couple of times, they are not likely to be wanted by others we wish to keep them anyway
