A lot of cars these days appear to be fitted with "directional or rotational "not sure of the correct title" tyres. Why is this and what would happen if a tyre was fitted in the reverse order.? Good one for normanthedog.

directional tyres are deigned for water displacement
so i should imagine if their fitted in reverse you just might aquaplane

Clearly the tread paterns work at dispersing water very efficiently provided they rotate in the correct direction. If fitted the wrong way around th revers effect would result and aquaplaning would be more likely as Pete says.

It is also an mot failure to have directional tryes going the wrong way.

sad old git,iv been beaten to it by the other 3 posts,my young son,when he was 17 put some on his escort,the other way round until his older brother pointed it out to him after a week or so,but he dident have any trouble with them,maybe just a wet underside for a week.

There are also tyres that have interior (inside) and exterior (outside) or words to that effect written on the sidewalls. The same reasons for grip in the wet and failing the MOT test apply to these.
