Motor insurance claim for vandalism in a supermarket car park

my son left his motor car in a supermarket car park and then went on holiday for a week. Upon his return he discovered that the car has been vandalised. Although he acted stupidly for parking there in the first place is it likely that he could put a claim in to his motor insurance company? Because he was on 'private land' will that negate his cover...or might they refuse the claim due to negligence...

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but the supermarkets today do not accept liability for any damage to cars parked on their premises unless the damage is caused by them also it depends what cover he has 3rd party or fully comp as to whether or not his insurance company will help.
If it's fully comp insurance he can claim for vandalism. He may lose his no claims bonus and he will have to pay any excess.

They may not pay up if they know it was parked there for a week though. And he should not lie to the insurance company about it - if it is badly vandalised they may ask questions of the supermarket.
Plus don't forget one of the rating factors when taking out car insurance is where they are told the vehicle will be kept overnight.
Tell them it was vandalised elsewhere!! naughty but hey!! They over charge us with their premiums anyway.
hes lucky he dident get a parking ticket, for being there for over 3 hrs.
Hello,

Your son will be covered for vandalism damage is fully comp. It will not be advised to tell them where the vehicle was parked for how long. Has the incident been reported to the supermarket and police? Think abouth this before any change of where the vehiclewas parked.

Let me know and I can advise you further as I work as an insurance claims investigator!
