I have discovered some very thin longitudinal cracks between the treads on a couple of my tyres. I have been told that this is due to the silicone in the tyres drying out and could cause the tyres to distort. The car has 15000 miles on the clock and is four years old.Any advice please.

As zac says tyres do deteriorate with age, I had to renew a front tyre on my motorbike to pass the MOT test because of the small cracks, the tread had plenty of depth.

Thank you both.I appreciate your answers. What I need to know is are these tyres now unfit to use?

A tyre company will certainly recommend changing them. Go to a local MoT station and have a quick word with them, that way you get an unbiased answer.
