Is it right that you should change the water pump at the same time as replacing the cambelt. My man didn't and the water pump has now gone meaning I have to pay another 300 in the same years as I had already paid for the first job. Can't go back as friend of a friend.

If you went to a Renault dealer he would have recommended the water pump was done at the same time for a relatively small cost as the engine is stripped down to expose the water pump when the cambelt is replaced.

If you went to a local garage they would do what you told them to do which was renew the cambelt.

even at that the water pump should have been checked while it was stripped down for any abnormal movement/roughness when rotated and water seepage and the customer informed that it is recommended it be replaced. however these do fail from time to time and cause valve to piston contact.
