The Rootes Group was the parent company of many familiar British marques including Commer, Hillman, Humber (all acquired 1928), Talbot (1934), Karrier (1935) and Singer (1955). Sunbeam joined the group in 1938 and was merged with Talbot.
Rootes Group was taken over in 1967 by Chrysler and sold to Peugeot in 1978, who in turn sold part of the group to Renault.
The Singer Gazelle (a variant of the Hillman Minx) was the first "Singer" badged vehicle manufactured under Rootes Group control.
