Why do you suspect the timing belt to be at fault?

Surely when you bought it it came with service history to back up the engine's life and it would have been in with that somewhere?

It would be best to get the timing belt checked and or changed if it hasn't been changed as it could do lots of damage to the engine if it snaps on a test drive !
Having proof that the timing belt has just been changed is a good selling point, if it has not been changed in 75000 miles it is going to snap anytime now then you could be paying out up to 1000 for repair.

wicked..... means good.

i brought the car from a dealers in blackheath who only sell vw motors.

i also suspect that its the timing belt cos the car makes a whining noise when i start it, and when im driving.
i also looked at the history of the car, everything has been done apart from this.

do you think that before he sold me the car he should ave done this?
ha! you bought from that overpriced dealership near the royal standard....they are infamous!

They have a reputaion for over pricing motor in order to look as thought they are 'well looked after'

anyway.....sell it on, sold as seen.....just do it before you get hit with the repairs....
squeaking usually means the fan belt is loose,i had a golf gti 1.8t and i did my cam belt at approx 76,000,think its recommended btween 60,000 and 80,000.if you want full selling price for the car i would suggest you have it done as its a vital peice of service history that anyone would ask for!and it will smash ur engine if it goes as i found out when i had an astra! lol!
