Honda Accord - damp start problem

I was asked to look at a 2000 Honda Accord which doesn't start well if it is damp.

I'm not too familiar with the vehicle.

Battery and alternator are fine.

Spark plugs certainlny require replacement, as does the rotor arm/distributor cap.

I noted a number of earth straps which looked corroded.

The problem does not exist when dry.

Any thoughts ?

Rotor arm and distributor cap wear is probably the most obvious reason. If the distributor cap gets moist air inside it, corrosion of the points occurs and HT arcs inside cap instead of reaching plugs. Check HT leads to plugs also as this causes similar problem. Try looking under the bonnet in the dark while someone turns the engine over. Any blue or yellow flashes from the leads are usually visible proving lead integrity.

Bad earthing can also be a problem. If earth leads are broken or there is bad contact to the chasis fixing points then they need replacing or cleaning.

Shorts are always worse in damp air. Hope this helps

Sounds about right woodwose.

The only time my Honda has failed to start was when the cap and arm wore out.
