whats going on with my focus?

Bear with me..........2 weeks ago the car konked out and when the repair man came he checked and said it was my battery. I bought a new one and have been a bit poorly since so have used only for a few short journies, I decided to escape the house this afternoon and the same "brake" and engine lights lit up on the dash and when I pulled over it wouldnt start again. Out in the dark and rain without my mobile I tracked down the breakdown people but when i returned to my car and tried it again it started I drove home with e engine light on and got home but its cut out again and i cant get it started. Whats going on any advice Abers please.

It may be a bad earth, the earth goes from the battery -ve to the chassis and then to the engine, I suggest removing all three (one at a time!) clean them and replace.

With the engine running, put a voltmeter across the battery, the reading should be in excess of 12V to be charging properly

Check ALL the wires have been put back on the new battery. Check rear light earths if that doesnt help.
