clio 1.4 automatic mark 1 central locking wont work

I have changed the battery in my key and the central locking wont work, all doors lock, open when I use key in door . does it have to be re-coded? if so could anyone advise me on how to do this?.
The battery in key is fine ,also the box has just been replaced as water got in the old one.
Any idea's be most welcome.

Most remote key/fob batteries must be replaced/swapped within 10 seconds, otherwise they loose the pre-programmed code. This information should be somewhere in the handbook for your car.

Once the key has lost its code, re-coding normally requires you to give money to your garage.
