clutch? or something else
These are the symptons,
clutch bites, can feel it .
in 1st and 2nd gear everything seems fine,
in 3rd or 4th gear if one is driving along at say 30mph, and i accelerate the rev counter will rise by about 500-1000 rpm, but no increase in speed for about 1-2 seconds then rev counter climbs back down again and rises along with speed,
ive tried parking up a hill pointing up, hand brake fully up, putting into 5th gear, then accelerating and slowly dropping the clutch, and it always stalls,
am i being a bit dense, could it be something else apart from the clutch slipping? as i thought that was the simlest way of checking wether a clutch was on its way out?

in fifth gear it is LESS likely to slip than in first.
in second gear doing 10/15 mph foot fully off the clutch. floor it max throttle. if the clutch is going to slip thats the time it will. only do this in a safe manner, under control and not in traffic or anywhere you may come a cropper.
if clutch slips check the cable is releasing the lever fully and not holding the clutch slightly on.
