OK 1 for you technical gurus here.
ive recently got a rover diesel turbo 420 but it seems really sluggish for a 2 litre, it dosent accelerate like i think it should, there is no smoke or warning lights, it dosent overheat and it is still very economical (50-55mpg) you can here the turbo whistle but it is very sluggish. ive had the exhaust checked and its ok, no holes or blowing.it will do the speed limit (and probably beyond ) but is slow getting there, it uses no oil or water.
any ideas anyone, if the turbo has "blown" or is duff, can you still drive the car without doing any damage to it?
i would appreciate advice before i sell it as spares or repair, many thanks in advance.
hi some things iv found thats stopped turbos working, waist gate rod clip rusted and rod came off causing exhaust to pass by the turbo, also theres a unit that controls the turbo iv had small pipes split and come off, or mabe ur expecting too much turbos on early diesels were not really there to make them fast just not slow? mabe hope i was of help
Thank you to both of you who answered, i took it to another exhaust garage and they found that the exhaust was leaking after the turbo by quite a bit (even tho the 1st garage said it wasnt leaking anywhere!!
its going in today to get a new gasket and seal on.
thanks again, they mentioned it would result in turbo lag?? and loss of performance.
