licence revoked

a young 20yr old lad i know has had his driving licence revoked. this was because he received 3 points for entering a layby type bus stop the wrong way on his motor cycle years ago. then was given another 3 for riding his bike with only 1 wing mirror not long after. just after 9 months of passing his car test he has now got another 3 for doing 46 mph in a 40. i understand the speeding needs to be dealt with but think this is very unfair that he needs to retake his test as they dont even do that for drunk drivers.also not sure it is even illegal to ride bike with 1 wing mirror. can anyone shed some light on this please?

It's too late for him to appeal old endorsements, but he has had his licence revoked under the totting up - 6 points within 2 years of passing test, back to learner status.

So it is not just because of his speeding, as you know. He should have been extra careful knowing he had points on his licence.

The measure was introduced to encourage new drivers to drive within the law during their early years of motoring. It has proved to be a strong incentive for them to do so as reverting to provisional status is a real punishment for them.

As Ethel says, it is too late to appeal against any of these endorsements. The speeding is undeniable and the wing mirror offence is now out of time (any appeal has to be launched within 21 days of conviction). There is no right of appeal against the revocation - it is done by the DVLA in all cases.

The punishment certainly is not unfair - it is applied equally to all drivers in the same circumstances.
