I was driving up a side road and a man openned his car door and knocked my wing mirror off my car- is it his fault for not looking before he openned his door into the road?

I would say yes - he had the opportunity to avoid the situation whereas you wouldn't have known he was about to open his door?

Of course it is, would it have been the cyclists fault if he had hit the opening door and died because of the drivers inattention?
