Are you sure you mean the cambelt and not the more visible drive belt ?
Question Author
the recovery bloke had a quick look he took off a cover on the left hand side and saw a belt that was very loose, he said it may be just the tentioner, me i have no clue, just wondering how much ford will sting me for? any rough idea of how much it may cost?
If the cam belt was loose, you would soon find out mate, it would slip the timing. T.W.R.
If the man has said the tensioner is not doing its job and feels the cam belt is loose you should not drive it, get it towed into a garage and get it done, if it were to snap whilst being driven you would be looking at big money and possible serious engine damage ,
If it is your cambelt then you can expect to pay around 200 to get it replaced, with the tensioners etc. Main dealer could be a lot more. Try a good general garage or an independent Ford specialist. But get it done soon or you will need a new engine.

Good luck

My tensioner went on my automatic a couple of weeks ago, you cant buy the tensioner separate, it comes as a pack with the cambelt and costs 25 pounds, it quite easy to fit if you know someone who can do it as a garage will cost you a fortune
