Dangling CDs ....!!!
Having recently had the misfortune to drive in central London I noticed that there were several cars with CDs hanging on string from the rear view mirrors. There is obviously a logical reason for this and I have been told that it has something to do with reflecting the beam from laser speed guns as used by the "local constabulary" [their words not mine..!!] .
can someone shed any light on this for me please?
Thanx in advance.

if it caused a restricted view then yes it is illegal as it would fail an mot, even a magic tree hanging from the mirror would probably fail most times, however !! and this is the good bit- its not even a legal requirement to have a rear view mirror!!!as long as you have the drivers side wing mirror and either or the rear view mirror or the passenger wing mirror it will pass an mot!!!!!!
Supposedly to "deflect" the beam from a laser speed gun. DOESN'T WORK
Proven to be a complete load of cr@p in a real-life situation by the guys on MythBusters on the Discovery channel.
Think about it - why would a tiny circle of reflective plastic deflect a beam which would otherwise be reflected by a HUGE great car!! Current laser speed gun technology can work over distances up to a mile (line-of-sight).
