My collegue said there are everywhere but when I looked in my rear view mirrors i could not see any above facing out behind me or any white lines in the road?

I'm not aware of any gantry ones, but I think there are some temporary yellow average speed cameras in the roadworks around Swanley.
think they have gantry cameras where the variable speed limits are but thats it... also seem to recall that they are only activated when the speed limit is lower than 70....may be wrong though so wouldn't risk it!
there are lots of cameras on the gantries on the m25,but mostly around junc 10 to 16,where the variable speed limits apply.
have seen the M25 ones merrily flashing away recently- no speed restriction at the time so likewise wont risk it!
The ones around the Heathrow area have recently been changed from wet film to digital. They couldn't cope before if too many people triggered them, so they were set pretty high.

Previously you had to be going at ninety something to trigger them, but now it is about 79, when a 70 limit is in force.
