Can anyone help? The gears are sticking on my Vauxhall Astra when the cars has warmed up, when cold I don't have a problem. Any advice would be appreciated.
A difficult job to do diy as the car has to be leval and you need to be underneath it, IIRC it is a 13mm bolt next to the O/S/F drive shaft in the gearbox
If you tun off the engine can you get the gears ok ? is so this may be a clutch problem and not the gearbox, easy enough to adjust
Thanks Bigboots. Yes when the car is off it is much easier to get it into gear. If it is the clutch is that much simpler to fix - I am wary of taking it into a garage as the car isn't worth much and don't want to spend a fortune fixing it.
Mdoo98 - it basically feels as if you are about to snap the gear stick before it will go into gear, sometimes it is such an effort to put it into gear.
adjust the clutch cable, all it is is a small plastic block which you turn clockwise on the clutch cable. push the lever on the gearbox back and then turn it clockwise a few times, this should sort the prob
Just wanted to say thanks for all the help. Just been to the garage and they have adjusted the clutch cable (for free) and all now seems ok. Thanks again!
