why do other countries drive on the right when we drive on the left?

i believe Sweden drove on the left same as us, then someone decided to change to the right the same as the rest of mainland Europe. They changed all the signs etc. so one morning everything changed to the other side !! imagine waking up to that...bet the body repair shops were busy...
I think you will find, that they drive on the left in Austrailia, New Zealand and South Africa.
I've heard they're changing over to the right in Ireland, the plan is to do it in stages.

- week 1 Lorries + vans etc
- Week 2 Coaches and Buses
- week 3 private cars
Japan drives on the left , hence so many jap imports,
(also Cyprus & Possibly Malta) apart from Japan notice a patern forming here...all GB commonwealth countries...

chas is rifgt ,,and usa , used to drive on the left , a million yeas ago ....
US Virgin Islands drive on the left but drive lefthand drive cars!!
Gibralter drives on the right
When I was in Italy last year I was convinced they drove in the shade!!!!!!
