The oil warning light will only come on when the oil is dangerously low or the oil pressure is dangerously low.

Engine oil levels should be checked manually at least once a month !

When did you last check yours ?
your not very up on cars are you,
try reading the handbook for starters, makes me shudder to think what your tyre pressures are!
Can other posters (I mean Deggers here, by the way) remember that the question was put on because cris doesn't know the answer? There is no need to be so condescending - I presume you had to find out these things yourself as I doubt you were born with a priori knowledge of the internal combustion engine. If you start to demean people for wanting to know the answer to a question then you undermine the whole point of theanswerbank.

PS - Toureman is correct that you should be checking once a month at least and always before a long journey.
It will be checked for you when the car is serviced - or does a car that new get serviced?

Thanks for your support undertow and yes I thought that was the case so I went out and bought some oil, my husband poo hood me saying I was jumping the gun. I have since checked it MYSELF and I am low so its one in the eye for him. And deggers no I am not to good with cars but I can bake a nice cake
it depends on how much oil you get through. if you have a high performance car.. well I was advised mine will need a litre for every 1000 miles.

I've never known a car to get through so much bloody oil!
