Is a citroen 2cv more practical to own than today's cars
My restored 2cv is 22 years old. Is it a more sensible option than a new car? Some plusses: Cheap car tax, low insurance, good supply of spares from specialists, minimalist so very little to go wrong, easy to open canvas roof, a starting handle (!), very reliable if well maintained. I know there are downsides which I'm sure you will tell me about!

brian2cv if you are happy with your car, as i suspect you are, then stick with it, i had one of these about 30 years ago, it was practical reliable and simple to maintain, but just wasn't my kind of car, i tow quite a lot, and obviously this is not a towcar.
I do yearn for the days when, if the car didn't start the problem was found in minutes, without having to resort to specialised equipment,
I'm quite sure that the longer you keep your 2cv the more you will appreciate it,
good luck..

Pete, yes it is horses for courses. One of the most concerning things about today's cars for me is that though the technology is very clever it can let you down without warning and then cost a fortune to fix. I've grown up in an era when most things were mechanical and wore out slowly. The result was that you could put off a repair or replacement for a little while whereas with a modern car I just don't know how you can budget for things going wrong.
My first car was a 2cv, I loved it, had to let it go in the end as chasis went and couldnt afford to get it fixed (but sold it to a chap who did get it sorted and re sold it)...
Downside to me, was very cold in the winter!!, But they are fantastic little cars.
Do you wave at other people in 2cvs? I used to (tragic I know)
