I have a BMW523i which will not start. I have tried jump starting to no avail. All I get is a click from somewhere at the bottom of the engine. The battery is fairly new. Has anyone out there got any ideas?

a knackered, or stuck starter motor?
agreed, starter motor
Get a 'Brummie adjuster' and give your starter motor a whack............
yes stuck starter motor , this can sometimes be cured on manual cars by putting it in gear and rocking back and forth.
I agree with the others the starter sounds like the most obvious...
..but it could also be a duff battery or earth, when you're jump starting it make suer you put the neg lead onto a metal part of the engine (not the battery lead) and make sure you're getting a good contact (check the lights are brighter or the wipers move faster to confirm more juice is getting through).

Good luck.
or even try and bump start it, this will confirm whether it is a knackered battery or starter motor
