What equipment MUST a car have?

I've been trying to work out what equipment a car must have to be street legal. So far I've got speedometer, audible warning, mirror (but not sure of location), wheel arches or mudguards, seat belts (depending on date of first registration).

Are there any more must haves?

Lights, white (or these days,non-red) to front and red to rear plus rear reflector, brakelights, indicators.

Apologies murvic. Just a bit of silliness there - but tyres with good tread ARE a must. if you drive round with bald ones, you'll either get pulled over or have an accident.
