No license required lozzylou, just you let your partner tow you around
To quote the Highway Code mandatory laws.....

"You MUST NOT tow more than your licence permits, if you passed your car test after 1st January 1997you are restricted on the weight of trailer you can tow"

I don't know what the weight is though.

Also the trailer must not exceed the weight your car is allowed to tow, you should find that in your car handbook.

750kg is it not? when i went for a job with the AA had to sit a test to be able to tow a trailer as i didnt pass my test until after 97. hopefully somone can confirm for definat ethough
It all depends on when he passed his test. If he passed on or after 1st Jan 1997, he is not allowed to tow a trailer or caravan until he has passed the B+E test ( I am assuming he does not hold a C or D licence).

See "Car driving licence first obtained since 1 Jan 1997"
If he passed before this date, he can tow trailers up to a max gross train weight of 3.5 tonnes (as long as various restrictions are met). See

hi i dont really understand it all tbh. he passed his test in juluy 2008. the letters on his license are
A, BE, D, D1, GH

what does this mean his limits are
thanks for your help
If he has had his licence from the age of 18 and is now 27, he can't have passed in July 2008! However, the relevant letters on the licence are BE (or B+E). B means he can drive a car and E means he can put a trailer on it, so the second link in my previous answer is the one that applies.
