My sister who has a not passed her test and doubts that she ever will, still wants access to a car to enable her to take her grand-daughter away. She is prepared to buy a car and tax and insure it for her son-in-law to drive but she does not want him to own the car.

Can she do this as the insurance will have to be in his name and the log book for the car will be in her name?

Yes, many non-drivers own cars.

By the way, the person whose name is on the log book is simply the Registered Keeper. That is not the same as being the owner.

However, she can have her name on the log book and insure it with son-in-law as the driver.

ethel, is correct in nearly all she says,but beware,not all insurance companies will allow the insured not to be the registered keeper,so check first with the insurance company
