Hypothetical question!

I have a clean full UK car licence, held for the past 10 years. For the last 6 months I've been riding a moped using the provisional licence element.

Once passing my practical motorbike test, if I racked up 6 points on the bike, would my motorbike licence revert back to provisional without affecting the car element?

And if I racked up enough points to be banned, would that be a flat ban on all motor vehicles?

Sorry for the stupidity, I was having random musings the other day in that if I was to get 6 points now, there'd be no point in taking my test until they'd cleared etc.

Not a stupid question, quite interesting.

You only have one licence which would entitle you to drive a bike and a car.

If you got 6 points within 6 months you would not be banned as this would mean that you would also be banned on the car where you have had a licence for 10 years.

If you clocked up 12 points with a combination of points for offences shared between your bike and car you would lose the licence for both vehicles.

Hi Rev, why did you assume I'm an illegal rider?

First of all I passed my car test before 2001, so I can ride a moped (50cc or less) with no need for a CBT, and I believe without the need for L plates.

Secondly, I did take a CBT because I'm not stupid enough to get on a bike and go out on the road without any sort of training. And I have L plates too. Having said that I have now derestricted the bike, and in doing so it would have been illegal for me to ride it if I hadn't already done the CBT.
