i have an old banger declared SORN and someones offered to buy it for scrap,but i cant find the logbook,can i get rid of it without the logbook?

Not sure you can (offcially) scrap it without some sort of paperwork nowadays, but have a look here at the "rules" and maybe email or phone the DVLA. You can always get a replacement V5 (logbook) from them.
