Pay & Display ticket machine out of order .........

Yesterday I parked in a Pay & Display car park. The ticket machine was out of order. Lots of other cars had written a note and left it on their windscreen - saying they had tried to pay but the machine was out of order. So I left a note in my car, stating the same.

Was away for about three hours. When I returned to the car, there was nothing to indicate that anyone had been round, checking for payment.

Did I commit an offence, leaving the car without paying? Should I have driven off to another car park? Am I likely to get a fine through the post?

I don't think pay and display fines are usually posted, they are normally put on the windscreen.

If there was no means of making payment, I don't see how you could be accused of an offence.

Forget it, and buy a bar of chocolate with your saving.

Thanks Panic. I thought as much, but it's good to know that other folk think the same!
