If you are doing it through your insurance company you should tell them first.

If you are paying for it yourself, they needn't be told
Either contact autoglass or look out for one of their free chip repair tents that go round supermarket carparks, as long as you are insured with a company that deals with them then they will repair it for free with no effect on your insurance.
I disagree. Get out your insurance details and ring someone like Autoglass.

They will do the repair and do all the dealing with the insurance compnay for you, if your insurance company is one they deal with.

You will not have to contact your insurance company. It will not cost you anything and will not affect your no claim bonus.
(Disgree with Ethel that is, which is highly unusual)
Though if you are thinking a windscreen chip repair will make i invisible you will be disappointed.

They repair the chip by cleaning it and filling it so it will not spread into a crack, it will still be visible and if anything slightly bigger.
I change insurer every year and don't entirely trust any of them -they will use the slightest excuse not to pay out.

For peace of mind, I telephone them before doing anything - I don't want an unexpected bill.
I did bsee an advert where autoglass would repairr your chip for free.

Remember even if you are paranoid about your insurance company.

You dont neede to let them do the repair

DID THAT HELP ???
On that link, it is free because the insurance company pay for it.

If they refuse to pay up, you get the bill.

the work we carry out will usually be FREE of charge. This is because in most cases it is paid for by your insurance company.
Following through on the link that Leg gives, you will find this

Yes, I know all that, PB - but I still like to make that phone call first - it only takes a minute and can save a lot of aggravation.

If the insurance company aren't going to pay, I'd go elsewhere. Autoglass aren't the cheapest when you have to pay direct
Ethel fgs no 2 claims or damage will be the same.Obviously none of us can give an exact answer via the website can we?I dont have a crystal ball and i assume you dont either.

The consultation is freee however.

Sorry i was trying too help.

jeeez
I have had two windscreens replaced and paid the excess, and got a repair done on my mother's car free of charge.

No hassle. No forms to fill in. No contact with the insurance company. Easy.

You're getting paranoid Ethel.
Check excess on ur policy. If windscreen is cheaper then pay yourself. Better tho, drive behind a council lorry and claim damages from their fall-out.

I know, I'm horrid.....but its all a game....and the council do rip us off!
fgs im sure the poster has no idea now and after paranoia and now adviceto commit insurance fraud , which that would be terambulan , i imagine the poster will steer clear of here.

unbelievable
Its also possible that it does not need reparing. It has to be quite large and in zone A to be an mot failure (the sweep of the drivers wiper) but otherwise you can leave it as it is. A qucik visit to your local mot station will tell you.
Had a chip repaired a few weeks ago rang seperate number on insurance paperwork for glass straight through to Autoglass they handled it all chip repaired next day no charge and it does not affect your NCB.
