Is the light supposed to keep flashing when the car is parked up. Seems a waste of battery?

A typical LED uses around 40mW of power. Your car battery is hardly going to notice it. The light is there to comfort you that car is alarm is armed, and to discourage the baddies.
My car has a flashing red light on the dash despite having no alarm. It is there to give the impression that there is one - don't ask me why, Ford made it like that :-)
My Vauxhall is the same.

I don't suppose the oiks are fooled for long.
Interesting, you two. I have a Nissan Sunny which displays a flashing light so I assumed it had an alarm. Does anyone know if they are actually alarmed?
yes, but I have a nice car ;o)
