I drive a silver Renault Grand Scenic reg no (example)DG07 ABC in my area is an identical car with the reg DG57 ABC. Can this be correct?

The first two letters indicate the local DVLA office where the car was first registered, DG means Chester or Shrewsbury.

The digits indicate the period in which it was registered, �07� means March to August 2007 and �57� means September 2007 to February 2008.

The final three letters are random.

This means the examples you give are, although unlikely, entirely possible.

Perfectly possible but to see this in the same area might be a one off....

As the first 2 letters indicate the area of registration - it is more likely to be seen in the same area. There are lots of instances of cars with similar reg numbers - theirs is just 6 months newer than yours - a coincidence but not unlikely - a fairly common car in a common colour - registered in the same area.
