When is a motorway not a motorway?

A motorway is only a motorway when you pass the proper signs that tell you it is a motorway. Before the signs the rules of the road apply - beyond the signs the rules of the road AND the motorway regulations apply e.g. no peds etc.

The motorway then ends once you physically pass the 'end of motorway sign'.

some duel carriageways have three and fore lanes

duel carriageway just means two roads running parallel to each other with traffic flowing in opposite direction

not the amount of lanes it has
