Rear Lights - Renault Megane

I followed an R-reg Renault Megane for a while tonight. Very disconcertingly the brake lights, at the top of the rear light cluster, were orange, while the indicators in the middle of the cluster, were bright red.

When he braked it looked like hazard warning lights, whereas indication looked like braking. Is this normal on this car?

Thank you alanjohn, but it leads on - how did this happen? Has someone deliberately fiddled with the wiring, and what is the point?
No Gormless. It's illegal. If you were a policeman (you might have been....) you could have arrested him... shame you weren't! lol ;)

Thank you QOA, but WHAT IS THE BLEEDIN POINT in fiddlind around with the rear lighting on a Renault Megane?

I really cannot see any gain except to pi$$ off the following drivers.
Lol
Sad but true Gormless - you're right. :)
probably just corroded terminals/wiring it happens...doubt the driver is even aware of it.
the electric wires were more than likely corroded, it happened to my first car, a ford escort. when i braked both indicators lit as well as the brake lights and when i indicated my brake lights would flash. I never could figure out why this was the case, after 2 new clusters and a lot of insulating tape i gave up and scrapped the car!
its a bad earth connection on the circuit board of the rear light cluster, common fault on that shape of megane
