1.1 1994 Fiesta doesn't like starting from cold. When you turn the key in the ignition the engine begins to turn as though it's going to start - and then nothing.

We've replaced the plugs and the battery seems to have plenty of life in it. Spraying WD40 into the air intake and/or flooring the accelerator has worked in the past, but not now.

Any ideas what we could try next?

Try put hot water from the kettle onto it...

Well, I like the thought of the Ferrari, but sadly ...

Kettle won't work - it's not frozen. Last time it happened we thought it was damp, but that wasn't really the case this morning.
Aww, sorry.

What's wrong with the Ferrari!
They are BRILLIANT! :)
What's your oil viscosity like? Try using a thinner oil, such as a 5w-40, which may be better for cold starting.

Thanks Teddio - will try that. Mr Next Door (a mechanic/engineer) has kindly offered to take a look at it whilst I'm at work tomorrow as he's not working, so I'm keeping everything crossed.

QueenOfAmbe, I love the idea of the Ferrari. Unfortunately my bank has other ideas!

Well, my lovely, lovely neighbour took a look at it whilst I was at work today. He replaced the ignition leads and it started straightaway, apparently. Now it's just a case of wait and see.

Thanks for all your advice, folks.
