vectra 1999 2.0sri ecu light keeps coming on

hi if i dead lock the car at night and then start it in morning then all is well car runs fine. if i then stop and restart car at any point the ecu light comes on and car runs at reduced power and revs linited to 4500 it doesn't matter if i drive 200 yards or 200 miles the light stays out until i stop and restart. anyone with any ideas please help as vauxhall want �80 just to look at it

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.hi paultintin, i had exactly the same problem as you with a 1996 vauxhall calibra 2.0 litre 16 valve ecotec. the problem turned out to be the cam sensor. they are quite easy to change it took me about 20 mins. the guy who plugged the ecu into the tec2 computer said that when the engine won't rev above 4500 revs that is sure to be the cam sensor that has failed. and he was correct when i changed the cam sensor there was no more problems.
