How does the registration system work? I know that 09 cars are out today and inSeptember there will be 59 reg plates but next March will be for instance YL10 ABC. Will the system then continue using the year number as it will then be 2010 and will Sept 2010 plates be YL60ABC and Sept 2011 plates be YL61ABC etc. Please settle argument between myself and my husband. Thank you.

You are correct.

Here is a cut and paste from the AA website

From 2010, the year identifying number will continue to use the last two digits of the year for cars registered in March, with 50 added to that number for those registered in September.

So, for example:

2010: March 10 and September 60
2011: 11 and 61
2012: 12 and 62
2013: 13 and 63
2014: 14 and 64 etc.
