I got stopped by the police for just this when I was younger (don't ask why I was wearing a helmet!)

I was informed that they class it as restricting my vision and was told to remove it in no uncertain terms.

That said if you were to own a car such as the aerial atom which has no windscreen then the wearing of a helmet is going to be a necessity! (unless you enjoy being hit in the face by insects at motorway speeed!)
